Course email

English meaning of the text

You have been on the waiting list for the evening course, and a place has now become available for you.

Let us know by Thursday at the latest whether you accept the place.

If we have not heard from you by then, we will offer the place to the next person on the waiting list.

We will send the starting instructions once you have confirmed your participation.

Haluat kurssille. Mitä viestin perusteella kannattaa tehdä nyt?

English meaning of the question and choices

You want to join the course. What should you do now according to the message?

  1. Wait for instructions without making contact.
  2. Join the waiting list for the same course again.
  3. Reply to the offer before the deadline.
Answer and reasoning for every choice

Supported answer: Vastata tarjoukseen ennen määräaikaa.

There are three states: waiting, being offered a place, and confirming participation. The email moves you into the second state, while your reply is needed for the third. Starting instructions come afterwards.

Why the alternatives differ

Odottaa ohjeita ottamatta yhteyttä.
The instructions are sent after confirmation. Waiting silently would leave out the action required to accept the offer.
Liittyä uudelleen saman kurssin jonoon.
A place has already been offered. The next step is accepting or declining it, not starting the waiting process again.
Vastata tarjoukseen ennen määräaikaa.
The message asks whether you accept the place and states Thursday as the latest day for the reply.

Understand what has changed. The perfect can connect an earlier situation with its current result, as in on vapautunut paikka.

Notice the language

otatko paikan vastaan

whether you accept the place

The verb expression ottaa vastaan means accept here. The question asks for your decision rather than announcing that you have already accepted.

siihen mennessä

by then

Then refers to the deadline already mentioned, Thursday. It does not refer to the first lesson.

A course has not been confirmed

This email concerns whether an entire course will run. Read the present facts separately from the condition for going ahead.

A different situation

Viikonloppukurssi järjestetään, jos osallistujia on vähintään kaksitoista.

Tällä hetkellä ilmoittautuneita on kahdeksan.

Ilmoitamme tiistaina, toteutuuko kurssi.

English meaning of the text

The weekend course will be held if there are at least twelve participants.

At the moment, eight people have registered.

On Tuesday we will tell you whether the course will go ahead.

Mitä kurssista tiedetään nyt?

English meaning of the question and choices

What is known about the course now?

  1. Whether it will run is still uncertain.
  2. It has definitely already been cancelled.
  3. It starts on Tuesday at eight.
Answer and reasoning for every choice

Supported answer: Sen toteutuminen on vielä epävarmaa.

A condition that is not yet met is not the same as an announced cancellation. Keep quantities, decision dates and actual start dates in their own roles.

Why the alternatives differ

Sen toteutuminen on vielä epävarmaa.
The required number has not yet been reached, and a decision will be announced on Tuesday.
Se on varmasti jo peruttu.
The current numbers do not meet the condition, but the message does not say a final cancellation has happened.
Se alkaa tiistaina kahdeksalta.
Tuesday is the announcement day and eight is a participant count. Neither is stated as a lesson start time.

Read a realistic condition. A jos clause can make an event conditional without claiming the event has already happened.

Explain it yourself

Write a short reply accepting the evening course place. Ask for the information needed to attend the first lesson. Your draft stays on this page until you leave or reload. It is not submitted or automatically graded.

Hei! Otan kurssipaikan mielelläni vastaan. Voisitteko lähettää ensimmäisen tunnin ajan ja paikan? Kiitos!

Hello! I would be happy to accept the course place. Could you send the time and place of the first lesson? Thank you!

The reply gives the decision the organiser needs and asks for useful next information. It does not repeat a waiting list request.
