The project behind the practice

About YKI Test Prep

Finnish practice and YKI study material in one place, to help you focus on your learning and prepare for the exam.

Why this site exists

YKI Test Prep started with a simple aim: make practice material and information about the YKI exam easier to find in one place.

The idea is to help learners give their Finnish studies a clear direction. You can find a skill to work on, choose a practice task, and see what needs more attention as you prepare for the exam.

Who publishes
this site

YKI Test Prep is operated and published by Wahid Sohail. Questions about the site, its learning material, or a correction can be sent to ykitestprep@gmail.com.

The exercises and model responses are independent study material. They are not official exam papers, an examiner’s assessment, or a promise of a particular result. The site’s reading and vocabulary diagnostic helps you choose practice; it does not certify your Finnish level.

For official test rules and immigration requirements, follow the OPH and Migri sources linked on our information pages. When reporting an error, include the page address or exercise identifier so the wording and answer can be checked together.

What you can
practise

The exercises use situations such as looking for work, arranging an appointment, understanding a notice, and explaining an opinion. Here’s how the different parts of the site work.

Reading & listening
Read Finnish passages or listen to audio, answer comprehension questions, and check your answers.
Writing & speaking
Work from a prompt. Compare your writing with a model answer and a self-assessment checklist, or record a spoken response and listen back to it.
Vocabulary & grammar
Review words with examples and flashcards, practise recall through games, and look up Finnish cases, verb forms, and useful phrases.
Your progress
A signed-in account keeps your practice history, vocabulary reviews, and study progress together across devices.

What the feedback
tells you

Reading and listening questions have answer keys. Writing and speaking need a different kind of review: a model answer can show one way to approach a task, and listening to your recording can help you notice where you hesitate or leave something out.

The site does not provide an examiner’s assessment of your writing or speaking. The level test is a short reading and vocabulary diagnostic to help you choose where to start; it does not measure all four exam skills. Use these results to plan your practice, rather than as a prediction of your YKI grade.

Free to use

You can try reading, writing, listening, speaking, and vocabulary without an account, within the guest preview limits. A free account opens the full practice tools, grammar reference, and progress tracking.

There is no course fee or paid practice subscription. If you would like to contribute to the project, you can support it on Ko-fi. Contributions are optional.

Practice material,
official information

YKI Test Prep is independent. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Finnish National Agency for Education (OPH), the University of Jyväskylä, or the Finnish Immigration Service (Migri).

For registration, test dates, and exam rules, use OPH’s YKI information and the official registration service. For requirements related to an immigration application, check Migri directly.
